bulletBuilding Work Moves on a Pace

The work under the eaves has moved on a pace.  The foundations have been dug out and the building up again has started.  Community Service have worked very hard for us and we are grateful to them.  It does mean that by the back door of Kepplewray is a building site but we hope to rectify this as soon as possible, we are very sorry for any inconvenience caused during this building work time.  We have been assured that our planning permission now continues.

bulletBuilding Work Started

The work on the capital development has started in a small way with building work under the eaves by the back door.  We have dug a trench for foundations around the perimeter of the under eaves by the back door at Kepplewray.  This will eventually become a room at the end of the building.  We have been assisted by Community Service who have dug the foundations for us.  We have also generously been donated 1,200 bricks by the Furness Brick Company to get us to damp proof course level.  We will keep you posted at each stage of the build.

bulletContainer Arrives

The container with activity equipment in for use by The Bethesda Project, safely made it through Somalian waters.  It now has to make its way acoss Tanzania, into Burundi and to Bujumbura, where it will go through customs procedures.  After that it will then be transported back across Burundi to Muyinga to The Bethesda Project.

The following is an exerpt from an email from Lucy received earlier this week:

"This week we have begun to buy and put together equipment for various games and team challenges which we can use with groups before our container arrives.
Interestingly - we discovered that the African version of the English "egg on a spoon" race is "Fanta bottle on your head" race! I'm not sure I could even stand still and balance a Fanta bottle on my head...?!"

bullet11 lads, 11 peaks and 1 football

A team of 11 lads aim to climb 11 of England’s highest mountains in less than 36 hours (including the highest Scafell Pike), wearing England football kits, kicking a football all the way in an attempt to raise money for Kepplewray.  The team have gained the support of England world cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst who has signed an England top which will be raffled to anyone sponsoring the walk.

People can sponsor the lads on line at  www.justgiving.com/11peakchallenge

For every £1 you give, your name will be entered into a prize draw to win a framed England shirt signed by Sir Geoff Hurst, the only man ever to score a hat-trick in a world cup final. (E.g. £5 donation = your name 5 times in the draw).

The walk will start at first light on Friday 11 June, the opening day of the world cup in South Africa. The lads will complete 13,000ft of ascent (which is the equivalent of nearly half way up Everest) and back down in time to watch England’s first match against the USA.

One member of the group Phil Wilcock  a fireman at Bury Station stated “our aim is to walk all day on Friday, spend the night somewhere near the summit of Scafell Pike and complete the walk on Saturday or we will miss England’s first match.”

John Slater, Bury resident who works for Bolton Council and a member of Bolton’s Disability Partnership added “a number of the lads work with people with disabilities, we all love football and we have all spent many years climbing and camping in Cumbria. The idea just evolved and now we just want to raise as much money as possible for this charity as it makes a unique difference to people’s lives”
